Motoring along
The next few days saw us moving up the South Island quite quickly.
9 May put us at Waimate where we stayed in the NZMCA park. It was a lovely warm afternoon so we walked along the main road to town and checked out the massive paintings on grain silos. On our way back from town we discovered a park with birds and wallabies.
10 May we headed to the NZMCA park at Ealing. This was a very rural park and peaceful. An impressive mist settled during the afternoon and made for eerie scenery.
On 11 May we reached the southern edge of Christchurch, where we stayed at the Weedons NZMCA park. This was a big park with room for over 100 vehicles. Even with other motorhomes all around us, we were impressed at how quiet and respectful other campers were. It rained heavily that night.
We headed into Christchurch city the next morning. Kmart was on our list as the Dunedin store closed during Covid level 4 with no apparent plans to reopen anywhere else in town. We also visited the RV super center with the hope of finding a suitable setup for a dining table but nothing was quite right.
It was late afternoon when we finally left Christchurch on 12 May. We made our way to a park over property, Torlesse winery. We arrived as it was going dark, no one was there, and no one had answered the 2 different phone numbers I tried calling, so we parked up in a spot that looked like one where other campers had parked in the photos and called it a night. We were met with a beautiful frosty morning and a lovely view of the vines.
13 May we headed towards Kaikoura with the intention of staying put for a couple of nights.
